Departmental Infrastructure & Strategic Plan
The Department of Anatomy has laid out a comprehensive physical and technological infrastructure plan to align with CUHAS's Vision 2030. Our goal is to bridge traditional anatomical dissection with cutting-edge digital imaging and molecular research facilities.
1. Current Facilities (Existing Infrastructure)
Our current facilities on Bugando Hill support over 500 undergraduate and postgraduate students annually:
- Main Dissection Hall: A spacious, high-ceiling facility equipped with professional embalming stations and premium downdraft ventilation tables to ensure a safe, low-formalin learning environment.
- Histology & Microanatomy Laboratory: Fully equipped with individual student workstations, high-resolution compound microscopes, and a centralized digital projection system for interactive slide demonstrations.
- Anatomical Museum: Features a rich collection of meticulously preserved human prosections, skeletal specimens, and developmental embryology models.
2. Future Infrastructure Projects (Vision 2030 Plan)
To remain a premier anatomical center in East Africa, our strategic plan includes the construction and equipping of the following advanced spaces:
- Digital Anatomy & Virtual Reality Suite: Plans are underway to establish a state-of-the-art virtual dissection lab featuring full-body 3D Anatomage dissection tables and virtual reality (VR) headsets for immersive neuroanatomy exploration.
- Molecular Anatomy & Cell Biology Research Lab: A dedicated research facility designed to support advanced postgraduate studies in clinical anatomy, anthropology, and developmental biology.
- Expanded Seminar Rooms & Museum Gallery: A modern, multi-tier lecture theatre and an expanded anatomical museum to showcase plastinated specimens and clinical pathology archives.
